ISSE Student Chapter Inaugurated at Sardar Patel College of Engineering Mumbai
June 4, 2025 – Sardar Patel College of Engineering (SPCE) in Andheri (W) officially inaugurated its Indian Society of Structural Engineers (ISSE) Student Chapter. The event marked a significant step for engineering students at the college, providing them with enhanced
opportunities for learning and professional development.
The inauguration ceremony commenced with a warm welcome by Ankit M. Asher, Assistant
Professor, Civil Engineering Department (CED), SPCE who greeted all the esteemed dignitaries.

The ceremony began with the traditional lighting of the lamp by all dignitaries present on the dais. This was followed by the distribution of Tulsi saplings to the ISSE team and guest lecturer Prakash Bajaj, symbolizing growth and prosperity. Dr. M.M. Murudi, Principal of SPCE, delivered an insightful address, highlighting the college’s commitment to academic excellence. Following this, Dr. Hansa Jeswani, Head of CED,
extended a welcoming address to the students joining the ISSE student chapter, emphasizing the purpose and numerous benefits this chapter would offer them.
Er. Ranganath Satam, Honorary Secretary of ISSE, elaborated on the society’s mission and the various activities planned for the student chapter. These initiatives include expert lecture series, workshops, training programs, site visits, and opportunities for industrial exposure, all designed
to enrich the students’ practical knowledge and industry readiness. The event featured an enlightening guest lecture by Er. Prakash Bajaj on “The Importance of Software in Structural Engineering of High-Rise Structures,” providing students with valuable insights into modern structural design using planwin & ETAB. This was followed by the next lecture on “New Construction Technologies” by Er. Rohit Pandya, Regional Head, TCS, UltraTech Cement Ltd., is promising continued learning opportunities. A significant moment was the handover ceremony, where Er. Maansi Nandgaonkar, Treasurer of ISSE, formally presented the letter of opening of the student chapter and ISSE publications. She also handed over certificates to 26 students of SPCE through Dr. Tanuja Bandivadekar, Professor, CED, SPCE, for distribution. The ceremony concluded with a group photograph of all the students, ISSE members, and SPCE faculty. Deep gratitude is extended to Er. Chirag Jain and Ass. Prof. Ankit Asher for their exceptional dedication and crucial proactive coordination with the SPCE Team and ISSE members, which enabled the successful launch of the SPCE student chapter. Their tireless commitment was vital to this achievement.
The program concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by an SPCE ISSE student
chapter representative, followed by a High Tea for all attendees.

16 May 2025: INDIAN SOCIETY OF STRUCTURAL SOCIETY In Association With Epicons Friends of Concrete (EFC) & Rotary International District 3142, organized a lecture on May 16, 2025, Rainwater harvesting for the MMR region at Rotary Center Thane, TMC – School no. 19 & 20, Vishnu Nagar, Naupada Thane.
Mr. Hemant Vadalkar, President, ISSE, delivered the welcome address and outlined the objectives of rainwater Harvesting. Followed by Rtn. Chandrahas Shetty, DGND from Rotary International District 3142, delivered a speech about the Rotary Center’s work.
Speakers Mr. Jayant Kulkarni, Mr. Sandeep Adhyapak, Mr. Nirav Saraiya, and Dr. Anil Lalwani from Pune. Shared their expertise, the knowledge, & valuable insights illuminated the path towards a more sustainable future for our region. On the occasion, emphasis was given on a more sustainable future for all regions and the potential role of Rainwater harvesting in water management.
Mr. Rohit Pandya from Ultratech Cement sponsors this program, gave a presentation about their products for rainwater harvesting, like pervious concrete, and a model of a building showing a system of collecting rainwater from the rooftop and making use of this water for flushing and plantation in the society region.
A question-and-answer session, along with speakers, was held after the completion of the presentation by Ultratech.

Secretary ISSE talked about activities of ISSE and appeal to become ISSE members. Geotechnical consultant Shekhar Vaishampayan talked on “Application of rock anchors in geotechnical engineering “and discussed various case studies elaborating use of rock anchors for various civil engineering applications like underground structures, slope stabilization, during deep excavations etc. Dr. Christian Schlenk from Fischer talked on development of chemical anchors and its testing procedures. Alpa Sheth summarized the talk on anchoring system. Dr. K. M. Godbole proposed vote of thanks. The programme was sponsored by Fischer and attended by about 120 engineers.
