“TO GUIDE THE STRUCTURAL ENGINEERS FOR THE EFFICIENT PLANNING, ANALYSIS, DESIGN AND DETAILING OF FOUNDATIONS FOR HIGH RISE BUILDINGS.”
23rd September, 2006
About the seminar

Many high rise building are coming up in and around Mumbai. Due to scarcity of space in the island city, more tall structures are being planned. Shortly, Mumbai will have the tallest building in India. Planning and designing the high rise building is a complex and challenging task. The structural frame is paid more attention to, but the foundation is equally important. Foundation for the high rise structures is always a big challenge for the structural, civil & geotechnical engineers. The problem becomes acute due to requirement of two of three basements for parking. Deep excavation for basements is another challenging job for the civil engineers. This needs to be tackled very carefully keeping in mind safety of adjacent structures and also the stability of deep excavations. Depending upon the strata available, either pile foundation with pile caps or mat foundation is generally adopted for carrying heavy vertical loads and seismic forces.

Various aspects of geotechnical parameters, deep excavations and suitability of different foundation systems for high rise building will be discussed . Modeling of the foundation systems, analysis ,design, detailing and construction aspects, along with case studies will be discussed. Eminent geotechnical and structural engineers like Dr. Nayak , Dr. Mhaiskar, Dr. Nori, Eng. Kamal Hadkar. Ms. Alpa Sheth, Eng. Jaydeep Wagh, Prof. Sundaram will share their experience.
